Sorry, but this article is all wet.
Saudi Arabia requested US troops to defend itself on August 7th, the first
forces arrived August 9th. Hussein declared war on Israel and the USA on
August 10th. By early September, there was no longer anybody suggesting
that Saddam Hussein would attack US-supported Saudi Arabia. I am quite
certain that anyone who looks at primary sources from the time
period(which are almost certainly available at your local library if you
would like to look them up - I did so myself at the tiny Takoma Park public
library three years ago) will not be able to find any evidence of a US
Administration figure expressing concern about an Iraqi invasion of Saudi
Arabia after this time.
Operation Desert Storm was most definitely not about pre-emptively
defending Saudi Arabia from Iraq. It was about liberating Kuwait.
Indeed, SC resolution 678, passed on 29 November 1990 (the "all necessary
means" resolution) does not even mention the words "Saudi Arabia" - not
even in the preambulatory clauses.
Quite simply, this article doesn't even pass the "NASA faked the moon
landing" laugh test.
JDG - It just doesn't add up Maru.
