But of course we would not be banning wine just french wine. Given the quality of 
wines from Italy Australia US etc this would not be much of hardship. But there would 
have to be more popular support for the war in the US for us to succeed. 
We are actually in quite a pickle now. If we don't go to war now Iraq and the 
terrorists will see us as weak. Sadaam will stop cooperating immediately and the 
terrorists will emboldened. If we do go to war we risk at the very least destroying 
whatever sympathy we had in the world after 9/11. Now I have no illusions about the 
motives of France and Germany. They are purely cynical. The popular outpouring against 
the war is I think more complex. People correctly fear that we will create chaos that 
will plunge us into a worldwide confligration and destroy the international economy. 
And we are disliked because we are the only remaining power and because Bush and 
company have behaved so arogantly towards the rest of the world over the past 2 years. 
I see no good coming out of any of this
