While I am certainly opposed to actions by Ashcroft, this is a massive
overstatement.  There is a total of one American who is being held for
secret reasons.  That is, indeed, one too many and the ABA is right in
opposing it.  Given the fact that the US mainland was hit by a shadow
enemy, and given the fact that we were very fortunate to not have 20,000
deaths (thank God that Al Quida tried to take down the WTC earlier), the
excesses are not nearly as bad I feared on 9-12.

Of course the Bush administration cares what the people in the US think;
its up for reelection in < 2 years.  And, every indication from the last
election is that the public tends to favor the president's plan in Iraq.
That's why only 1 Democrat up for re-election to the Senate opposed the
Iraq war resolution.

Well, if they don't take to the streets with guerrilla warfare, they will
just continue to be voted down 9 to 1.  The US electoral system does not
give overwhelming power to minuscule political parties.
