That was Kaiser's first idea. Did nothing for me. Absolutely nothing.

Thought of another important thing that often confuses people about ADD --
hyperfocus. In what they call "high arousal" situations, people with ADD
usually focus so intently that they lose all sense of time and everything
beyond the immediate. In fact, people with ADD tend to seek out such
situations. I was a paramedic, which is perfect example of a job for ADD
people. Flying airplanes, same thing -- but the FAA probably won't let me
fly as long as I'm taking the medication. Definitely not Wellbutrin, due to
a very, very small increase in chance of seizure. I haven't been flying
(piloting, that is) for a few years, so I don't know for sure. With
Strattera just getting FDA approval, I'm sure the FAA is in no hurry to
decide about it.

The confusing thing, of course, is that people tend to think that ADD =
can't concentrate on anything. So when we hyperfocus, it seems to
contradict the general story. Dr. Amen has a good explanation of how this
seems to work.

And another... Learn by doing! I think I've given up a lot of misery by
letting go of the idea of how I "should" be able to learn (by studying) and
focused on learning by doing. Now I don't even try to read a book about a
new programming language, etc. I just start doing it. After a while, I'll
read parts of the books to fill in the gaps. Somehow, it seems like I need
to at least form a framework of ideas through doing, before I can really
absorb much by studying.
