we see a very disturbing statement by Boeing engineers.  Engineers who
designed the risk analysis software package that was used to assure NASA
that the shuttle could safely re-enter the atmosphere stated that the
people who ran it for Columbia were novices who botched the job.

Wishful thinking engineering can kill.

What criteria does a company like Boeing use to decide who gets an assignment of this nature? And, when NASA receives their opinion, do they ask who is it coming from?
