And the US spent somewhere in the range $15 to $30 billion to fight the war in Afghanistan (NOT including costs of the WTC, terrorist defense, etc.). The United Nations Development Program estimates the cost of rebuilding Afghanistan to be about $15 billion over ten years. Not including humanitarian aid. The US is spending a lot of money to fight wars and pay for consequences after the fact, but relatively little for prevention of future wars and future terrorism. These are seriously screwed up priorities.
