Next time you pick up any pre-packaged/processed food, check the ingredient list for anything beginning with "hydrogenated." IIRC, there was a fairly recent north European study that found supplemental Vit C and E (and possibly beta-carotene too) not only didn't help prevent lung cancer in smokers, but may have made the incidence slightly worse.
