I actually took an hour to read the novelization of THE CORE. Yes, the use
of earthquakes is similar, but the source of the earthquakes (fancypants
electromagnetic waves) is far different. The casting of people with PhD's
as lead characters is probably a more important similarity. I kid you not.
Unfortunately for them, I don't think the writers have ever met someone
with a PhD, so the folks are two dimensional figures (and that's generous
in some cases).  One of the horrible things that starts to happen when the
Earth's magnetic fields go away is that the protection they provide against
DEADLY MICROWAVE RADIATION is lost.  I kid you not.  A lake begins to boil
when some microwave radiation sneaks in through a hole in the Earth's
magnetic field.

Its your call of course, but if it were me I'd be proud of the fact that
any similarity with a book I've written was mere coincidence.
