Every time Dan gets a new personal computer (as opposed to a new work computer), the new one has significantly more hard drive space than the old one. He copies all his files from the old one to a directory on the new one set up for the purpose. I bet he has files he hasn't used since he had the 20-MHz 386 (which had an 80 meg hard drive)....
Julia
who also has a directory containing files from the previous computer
I did that, and also still have those copies.
I was just making the observation that I started in 1995 with a 540MB hard drive, then added a 1.6GB drive, then when that started getting crowded I replaced the first drive with a 4.2GB drive, then about two years ago when there was no more room and that computer was incapable of further expansion I got a new computer, and then in just a few hours was able to find enough duplicate files which had been created since I changed computers that deleting them freed up more space than the total amount of space on the old computer.
Sort of a "640K is enough for anybody" moment . . .
Doesn't Mean I Couldn't Use Another 120GB Drive Maru
