Subject: Canadian Military and 4th Generation Warfare
Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 22:07:47 -0600

I've been fascinated by all the information I've read over the past couple of days about 4th generation warfare, after Guatam mentioned it in passing. In doing a bit of web research, I ran across these comments about the Canadian military:

from http://publish.uwo.ca/~mcdaniel/weblinks/4GW.html
or
http://makeashorterlink.com/?X265320E3

From A Soviet Document: "One of the serious problems in planning against
Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals nor do they feel any obligation to follow their doctrine."

A German General Officer: "The reason that the Canadian Army does well in wartime, is that war is chaos, and the Canadian Army practises chaos on a daily basis."

Anonymous 1st Canadian Division Staff Officer: "If we don't know what we are doing, the enemy certainly can't anticipate our future actions!"

The rest of the page is a somewhat more serious set of links with detailed descriptions of each site.

Included in those descriptions is this definition of 4th generation warfare:

Roughly speaking, "fourth generation warfare" includes all forms of conflict where the other side refuses to stand up and fight fair.

Zhaan: I've always wondered what could be beyond height and width, depth and time.
