I have only read _Late Talking Children_ . Awesome book. I read it because I was a late talker. I started around the age of five. It freaked my parents out because when I started talking, it was only in complete sentences. (That and I could read at the fifth grade level).
I would recommend anything by Thomas Sowell. I like him as much as Brin.

Syncronicity! A minute ago I was reading some weird web pages* and a book cited was The Quest For Cosmic Justice by Thomas Sowell. I didn't google the name, figuring I have way too much to read as it is. But now I will.

Will you tell your daughter she was born between Children of Dune and Riverworld, before the last episode of Farscape? "It was on the Sci-Fi Channel honey." "What's that, I never heard of that channel?" "Oh that's what the Psychic channel was called. There also was a channel that showed music videos and there used to be 44 minutes of programs an hour on regular TV, between commercials." "Oh daddy, now I know you're lying. All the video screen does is show commercials 24/7. How could we survive without commercials?" "Sigh." "Can I have some Waner Brother's Coke Krispies? Daddy you are supposed to use the NASCAR Time-Warner bowl not the McDonald McGraw-Hill bowl, today is Tuesday!"
