As for music, I recently copied over 200 CDs in my collection to a 40 gig external laptop sized hard drive that connects to my home or work computer via USB and uses the PS/2 mouse port via a feed-through type connector for power. I use Musicmatch to record and play the music, one feature of which is an auto DJ that will build a playlist from all your music. I'm _very_ pleased with this setup.

Thanks for the help people. I want to be clear on this: it's not my direct bosses that are hurting me. In fact, I have support of the next FIVE levels of bosses above me. In fact, it appears that there has been a shift in the way the HR handles promotions, but they did this without telling anyone that there was a change. There's going to be a meeting next week between high level managers and the HR department.
Now this is what the problem is. See we have a union. I belong to it. I don't have to, and I really don't want to, but I figure it's better to be with them. So I call my union rep and basically was told all the things I did wrong...I should have called them first and on and on. Well, the union never told me how important these issues were. Other than the monthly rant rag from the national organization I have gotten no communication from the local. I went to a few meetings and it was just a rhetoric fest. No worker info, just news about how bad the president is, where we need to spend money, who to vote for and vote against.
The other side of the coin is no matter how much the bosses think I deserve the raise, going by the pure definition of the position I really don't. It doesn't matter how good I am at my current job, that I may be doing work as good or better as the next level, the next position has certain responsibilities that I don't have. The argument is, that no one at the next level has the responsibilities that the description spells out. I'm the first one being whacked.
Thanks for the music suggestions. It's just, as I said, I don't own near the amount of music that I can listen to off the internet. I could record the stream at home and take it to work. That seems to be my best choice. But I won't do that until my new stream is shut down. Nothing official was said, it just stopped working.
On the other side: I just love listening to music. You can't believe how happy I am when I get nine hours never having to take my headphones off. I haven't had a major project in a few weeks, some little ones, but with a major one I can drown out everything and concentrate.
