It was decades ago, but we really enjoyed hiking in Waimea (IIRC the name -- "the Grand Canyon of Hawaii"), and staying a night at Coco Palms is fun for the torchlighting ceremony and the *really* cool bathrooms with fish tiles & shell sinks (I know, I know, it's trite, but it was cool to imagine that I was showering inside a reef...<lop-sided grin>). Breakfasting on fresh island fruits is wonderful. As is riding on the beach (but maybe that was Maui). Snorkeling in _purple_ water (from when the volcanic sand is red) is pretty cool too! Tons of colorful fish to see -- listen for the parrotfish crunching down on coral...Is the timing right for whale-watching? Aloha nui!
