He didn't bang the block on anything else for the rest of the meal. Of course, he would have had the option of refusing the broccoli, but he didn't even want to have it offered. (If anyone wants to criticize me on this, go ahead, I'd just appreciate it if you were polite about it.)

You're very lucky you have a child to whom you can give that kind of choice and still trust he'll get all the various nutrients he needs. With a couple of my nephews (a few years older than Sammy), if you gave them the option of refusing anything that was offered, they'd refuse everything except pizza :-) Our general practice with them is to let them make choices, but only let them choose between various options that are all acceptable to us.
