Ludlum kept disappointing me the last 3 or four of his books. Of course he
was ill and almost died 3-4 years ago; then he did earlier this year I
believe. I thoroughly enjoyed his early stuff ("The Chancellor Manuscript;
The Gemini Contenders", The "Bourne" series,etc.); later it was just one
"The" + adjective + noun novel with different names for nearly identical
characters. Ludlum also has someone writing books with a "Robert Ludlum's"
lead in. I've read that his last, "The Janson (Jansen) Directive" was
finished by one of his collaborators.
Awhile back I watched both versions of "The Bourne Identity." The recent
one with Matt Damon was only loosely based on the novel was the better of
the two. The original mini-series starring Richard Chamberlain followed the
novel very closely but was rather hokey.
