Debbi who has used and recommended various supplements & herbals, but checks out available research beforehand (many herbals frex have been well-studied in many European countries, so even if not FDA-approved, I can feel confident that at least they won't do harm; some studies of herbals including Chinese plants are beginning or are soon-to-begin here as well)
I try to keep up, and I am amazed at the amount of BS that does occur. For instance, I had done research into testosterone-like supplements. After doing some research, I found an article that stated that some of the preparations included chemicals that inhibited each other when taken together. They were combined into preparations strictly on the basis that marketing both together makes it appear "More Powerful" when in reality this was not the case. That whole Chinese thing... total crap. To claim that because a culture has used it for 3000 years does not mean it actually works. Yeah, perhaps some do something for you... I suspect most don't. If supplements did what they claimed, and worked well, Pharmaceutical companies would be all over it. Usually they are not - for many reasons... If anyone is to blame, its us for wanting miracles in a bottle.... You can't blame someone for giving us what we want, and charging us for it. It empowers people to take action in healing themselves. This is the hidden gift of supplements. Maybe they work, maybe not - but is it all that important if it makes people happy? Nerd From Hell BtW - My other recommendation - Cysteine - For hangover prevention. It really works.... http://www.ceri.com/alcohol.htm Anyone interested in marketing a health supplement/drink mixer that prevents hangovers? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
