Well, I've already started the 2003 NFL Season off on the right foot by
picking the Jets to rally around Vinny Testaverde and defeat the Washington
Redskins. Oops! Getting essentially three shots to convert one yard with
three minutes left in a tie game and failing every time simply cannot
inspire confidence for the Jets nation.
Anyhow, on with the rest of this week's picks. As always, home teams are
in CAPS.
I like BUFFALO over New England - the over/under for this game is two more
New England Patriots being traded or released to the Bills by the end of
the game.
Denver over CINCINNATI - the Bengals will be better this year, but the
Broncos are an awfully tough Week 1 test.
Indianapolis over CLEVELAND - The Colts offense should be back on track,
and with so many young players on defense, it will take the Browns time to
adjust.
DETROIT over Arizona - I haven't yet figured out what the two wins Arizona
will rack up this year will be, but I don't see this as one of them.
GREEN BAY over Minnesota - By the end of this game, the Vikings may be down
to their 4th String Running Back.
San Diego over KANSAS CITY - The Chargers are inexorably Super Bowl bound.
MIAMI over Houston - Incredibly, on Sunday Houston will lose its first
Opening Day game in history.
NEW YORK GIANTS over St. Louis - A few years back, these were titanic
battles of great defense vs. great offense. I say that defense still
wins....
PITTSBURGH over Baltimore - Even during the "smoke and mirrors" run of last
year, the Steelers always gave the Ravens fits.
CAROLINA over Jacksonville - In the upcoming cycle, the Panthers may again
be taking the upper-hand over their expansion-brothers.
Atlanta over DALLAS - UPSET SPECIAL Just because the Falcons are without
Michael Vick doesn't mean that they still aren't a good football team, nor
that the Cowboys are still a bad one.
SAN FRANCISCO over Chicago - Jeff Garcia remains healthy for now, which
should be good enough to get by the Bears, but this game makes me nervous....
New Orleans over SEATTLE - The Seahawks remain Super Bowl bound.... just
not this week.
TENNESSEE over Oakland - I like the Raiders in this game, but the Titans
are at home, which I think might be enough....
Tampa Bay over PHILADELPHIA - The Eagles weren't good enough in the last
game at the Vet and they don't figure to be any better in the first game at
the "Linc."
