Huh? Nothing butt http over port 80? What are you talking about? I'm using port 22 right this second, on a system owned by a friend who knows what the heck he's doing with it.

Actually, I much prefer software that uses another port, because then I can control it. I block everything except 80 through the firewall, then allow exceptions to specific ports with a destination of a specific server. I have to have 80 open, so I don't like software (other than web stuff, obviously) which uses 80. We have made it a requirement of the last few projects we have contracted out, and we mess with the routers and switches to keep the traffic where it belongs.
