Darby's pedigree was finally made available to me
yesterday, and I was absurdly pleased to recognize
several National Champions in it. On his sire's side
is *Witez II, the Polish Arabian I mentioned
previously, from the biography _And Miles To Go_; so
now I can nod sagely and say, "That explains his
courage in facing 3 pitbulls," or "...his fire and
showy bearing," or "...his dignity and demanding
respect."

Of course, that's silly; as if what his
great-great-great-grandsire did or was has that much
bearing on his personality! But he does have that
compact Polish body confirmation. (Pix of Witez II:)

'Raffles' is another well-known Arabian sire, of
Crabbet breeding (which included a lot of Polish
Arabs); here is a site about him - the pic of him at
24 years old looks very much like Darby in his winter
coat:

(Polish-bred and Crabbet-bred Arabs tend to be compact
and stouter than the Egyptian-type; this is Morafic, a
good example of the leaner and leggier Arab:)

And on his dam's side are 'Rohanna' - I presume of the
mearas (sp? - Shadowfax's breed) - and 'Keturah' which
was my SCA name...what fun!

Debbi
who got tied up with looking at all the pretty
pictures
