By Todd Rundgren
Music is a sacrament. This has been true for thousands of years of human history, save the last 100 or so.
Good stuff. Todd is one guy who knows both sides of the issue. The bit at the end about knowing his stuff when it comes to technology is not an exaggeration -- he's one of the most technologically competent artists alive. He likes to say that when he was a teenager, he had to choose between computers and music, but starting in the early '80s, he no longer had to choose.
I've known Todd for about 15 years -- I was with him many of the times he preached to Hollywood about interactivity. But we pretty well knew that it went to deaf ears because the industry's control of distribution was the key to its oligopoly (back then, there were almost twice as many labels -- seven!) and they knew it.
Darn Todd for moving to Hawaii. I don't bump into him nearly as often now.
