You could sneak RFIDs into the food at a prison (or just implant
them in the prisoners) and instantly know where any prisoner is
at any time.

The problem I see with the landmine application is that the enemy
can use the same tactic in reverse.  Lets say, when troops make it
to the front door of your compound...
