I happened to like 'Engle Against The Stars', the idea that an alien race_______________________________________________________________________________
might show up, mostly peaceful, just wanting to trade, and still screw up the
Earth.

I hear you on that score. Especially when considering the fact that "most" sci-fi is quite simply an expansion or a different take if you will, on someone else's ideas. Originality is rare. At least Mr. White is honest about that fact.
