While I don't think that gender selection here will
result in the same skewed sex ratio as has occurred in
some parts of Asia, the lengths people will go to to
get the gender of child they desire are, IMO,
excessive and wrong-headed. I have no real objection
to sorting sperm, as there is no danger to the
would-be mother or father, and little risk of
increasing genetic defects in the offspring; but using
embryo-selection techniques that were designed to
treat infertility for this purpose - except in cases
where there is sex-linked severe/fatal disease, frex
some muscular dystrophies or immune deficiencies -
does involve some level of risk to the would-be
mother, and potentially to the fetus as well. As for
aborting a fetus of the undesired gender, while I am
generally pro-choice, I'm not in this specific
situation. IMO, if somebody wants a child, they
should just be happy that it's healthy - selecting for
gender or hair color or musical aptitude strikes me as
wrong. If you want a blonde, get a Golden Retriever!
Male or female, your choice. :P

This is a disturbing article (with some graphic
description) about gender selection in Asia:
