You know, you're the second person recently to say
this.  While Antietam was the deadliest day in
American history, Shiloh actually isn't even in the
top 5 in casualties in a single battle in the Civil
War.  Gettysburg was the largest.  Shiloh was the
worst at its time - unprecedentedly bad.  It is
perhaps a sign of how incredibly bloody the Civil War
became that it would be surpassed over and over and
over again by the time the war was done.
