The Dr. Roy Walford, the main proponent of CR, died April 27 from respiratory failure and complications from ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. He was 79.
I read the LA times story. He believed he got ALS from Biosphere 2. They had high levels of nitrogen and were oxygen starved many times. Still, that was in 1993. The average lifespan after someone is diagnosed with ALS is 5 years. The story doesn't say when he first learned he had it.
Of course, that is only an average, and some people live with it much longer than that average, most notably Stephen Hawking . . .
