Scientists in the US are working on a 'Barbie drug' that gives people a tan, makes them lose weight and increases their sex drive. Scientists at the University of Arizona told Eyewitness News 5 they came across the drug while looking for ways to help people avoid skin cancer. They tested a hormone, melanotan 2, on a group of men hoping it would stimulate a natural tan without the aid of sunlight. But, to their surprise, they found it also seemed to work as a sexual stimulant and they say it should also help people lose weight. One man who tried the drug, named only as Gary, said he thought the synthetic hormone was better than Viagra: "It starts things going quicker, easier," he said. According to researchers, the hormone triggers a reaction in the brain that offers immediate sexual benefits. And fitness dietician, Tavis Piattoly, said: "It may have effect on seratonin, which decreases appetite. You may see some weight come off." One urologist said he found it hard to believe that the drug could be so wide-ranging in its impact. But Dr Neil Baum added: "Everybody's looking for the holy grail. This would be it. It would be almost too good to be true - it would be magical. I doubt there is one pill that can do all that. "If the Barbie drug proves to be the quick fix it promises to be, I would use it, not only prescribe it, if it did all of those things." xponent Quick 'n' Easy Maru rob
