On June 28 Apple holds its 2004 WWDC in San Francisco. Steve Jobs will be previewing Tiger, the next major release of Mac OS X. In addition he is just about guaranteed to announce *some* cool new gee-whizz thingy that Apple has managed to keep quiet about. Stuff like the iMac or iPod or iLife or whatever.

In the past few days Apple has announced new faster G5 Power Macs,

and the AirPort Express with AirTunes

The European launch of the iTunes Music Store is expected to be announced at a press conference on 15 June with the store going live immediately.

So with all this deck clearing going on, what is that Steve Jobs could be saving up as the big announcement to make at the WWDC?

It's unlikely to be another iPod since the Mini is quite new and they can't even make enough of them yet to satisfy demand.

A G5 iMac seems to be on the cards but doesn't seem quite gee-whizz enough. An iMac with a single 1.8 GHz G5 would be pretty nice, but it's just incremental.

It could be new piece of software, but what could it be? I suppose there might be a Microsoft-killing iOffice in the works but it doesn't seem likely.

So I'm baffled :)
