The problem with my arguments, Bob, is that they imply
that some Republicans haven't sold their soul to
Satan, and you and the good doctor can't handle that.
Fairly obviously, it's a little odd to claim that Rudy
Giuliani's achievements, the achievements of a
Republican, based on techniques that the local and
national Democratic parties viciously attacked him
for, don't redound to the credit of the party that
supported him, elected him, and helped him implement
them. As for the argument that Clinton promulgated
them - that's just an example of Dr. Brin's bizzarre
Presidential-centric view of the American government.
"Broken windows" policing was an idea that James
Wilson had long before Clinton, that Rudy advocated
long before Clinton, and that was adopted by lots of
big city police departments across the country because
it worked, not because the Clinton Justice Department
(which wasn't exactly enthusiastic about it, actually)
somehow encouraged it. The federal government has
exactly nothing to do local policing at that tactical
a level, and claiming that (say) the drop in the crime
rate in Boston was because Janet Reno told the Boston
Police Department to follow Rudy's example is like
tattooing "I don't understand the basics of American
government" on your forehead.
