Oh my god I am trapped between my love of the yankees and my hatred of  
statistics. You dastardly bastard! But I would have thought that the one  statistic 
that was the key to the yankees success was their payroll. Seriously I  have 
no problem with teams using statistical measures to figure out who they  
should sign or trade for. But I think one of the reasons that the Yankees do so  
well is that can swallow the costs of their mistakes (Louiza) or replace a  
downed player with somoene of quality (Olerud). One of the things I remember you  
pointing out is that bunting is bad and yet Torre uses the bunt all the time, 
he  even has Jeter bunt. I happen to agree with you on this but it appears 
that not  everyone buys into "new ball".
