Folks,
At the risk of inciting further anti-Christian sentiment, as a
Christian, I cannot allow this to pass. Jimmy Swaggart (who
famously denounced Jimmy Bakker for adultery before going on
to commit the same sin) recently preached the following:
"I've never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry.
And I'm gonna be blunt and plain, if one ever looks
at me like that I'm going to kill him and tell God
he died."
Rev. Swaggart said these words to shouts, laughter, and applause
in a televised sermon broadcast around the world. Neither his
later comments in the sermon ("I'm not knocking the poor
homosexual"), nor his un-apology days later ("I was unwise in
making the statement") demonstrate any real remorse for what he
claims was "a tongue-in-cheek statement best left unsaid." He
doesn't seem to understand that - even unsaid - such violent and
hateful attitudes are poisonous.
As Jesus (known to some in these circles as "Jebus") said,
"What comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this
is what defiles" (Matthew 15:18).
Sojourners Magazine asks its Christian readers - in humility
and love - to admonish their Christian brother to examine his
heart, and to repent of attitudes that consider violence against
gays to be laughable.
If you like, you can send a letter to Rev. Swaggart via the

If you /really/ don't like, you can respond with the usual
flair (and flare) for which this list is known.
