Oh come on, Zimmy, this is David Brin "logic" - where Republicans can never
ever be given credit for anything.

Is it supposed to be mere coincidence that the culmination of these many
years happened to occur right after the US invaded Iraq? Is it really so
over the top for Dick Cheney to believe that the US invading Iraq (and
previously having launched air strikes against Libya under Reagan) for
noncompliance with UN Disarmament resolutions had just a little something
to do with the timing of Qaddafi suddenly reaching this conclusion.

John: I give the republicans credit. They were the negotiators that closed
the deal. Can I say that the war had nothing to do with their decision? Of
course not but the reality is that the negotiations went on for years and the
reason Lybia gave up its weapons was to have the sanctions lifted. How do you
know that Kadafi "suddenly" reached his decision? My unnderstanding is that the
decsion was not sudden and was not primarily modivated by the war in Iraq.
By the way much maligned sanctions seem to have been more effective than ouir
current administration would have us believe. They apparenly worked in Iraq
and they worked in Lybia
