Well, I have never felt that he has talked down to me. He wouldn't dare.
:-) He arm waves, he fights, but I've never really viewed his writings
that way. I've gotten mad, but never felt that he thought himself at a
level above me.

Or, that there are opinions that differ from yours that are not homophobic.
IMHO, he is mistaken, not homophobic. One of my extra daughters is
gay....and I didn't march in the gay pride parade with her this year
because she asked very late...and I already had made a major committment
for that time. Next year for sure.

One thing I find useful, although I'm not always good at it, is
understanding the reasoning of people who differ from me. JDG and I differ
on this issue, but I see his point repeatedly misunderstood.

Its interesting to see posts in this thread discussing the lack of and need
for intelligent honest dialog; since I see obstacles to that in the same
thread. Dramatic turns of phrases, deliberate overstatements, and polemics
can be fun to write; but they are not community building. If you are
thinking you could catch me at it too; you are probably right....its always
much easier to see it in someone else's writings. But, it would be a real
counter culture experiment to try to actually empathize with and understand
worldviews radically different from your own; even if at the end of it you
are still convinced they are quite wrong.
