It's the jargon. The game hasn't changed radically. Of course

Its like that in poker right now - many of the Old Timers don't get the
statistical concepts that are driving poker theory right now, and look at
us "kids" as crazies.

Poker -- yeah, that's all over the place, isn't it? Never saw the fascination myself. Possibly because everyone in the tournaments keeps their clothes on. (Looking at many of the players, I suppose that's really a gift...)

The last
expansion I played with was "Fallen Empires" and a bit of "Ice Age".

Wow, that was a while back. So you missed Unglued?

...and dual color cards, and those silly cards that were /either/ red or
black, and kicker costs, and phasing, and...

Kicker's good. And buyback -- pay x to buy the instant or sorcery back and play it again. Ha ha. Or threshold: 7+ cards in your graveyard and the card you're playing gets punched up somehow.

Phasing can be *much* fun, like with Shimmer -- target opponent's lands all gain phasing. Unsummon his baddies, attack, and when he gets his lands back he summons but can't attack (no haste) ... I stopped playing that.

There's also echo, where you pay a card's costs again at the next upkeep. Nice way to get something on credit, as it were. And now, with the Kamigawa expansion, there are cards you *flip*, such as Bushi Tenderfoot. One white, 1/1 Samurai, but when it deals damage to any player you flip it (rotate the card 180 degrees) and it becomes a 3/4 double-striker with bushido 2 (when blocked, it gets +2/+2). Very ouch.

Oh, and equipment. Very nice. Artifacts that boost power, toughness, etc., and can be attached to different creatures. One I've mentioned is Loxodon Warhammer: Gives any creature +3/0, trample, and spirit link. There are other equipment cards -- many many of them.

I still can't believe that I traded my Black Lotus away :( :( :(

Good non-god, neither can I. I hope you got something worthwhile for it, like a house or yacht.

Poke around on eBay, check MTG trading card sites, etc. Apparently
Jester's Mask, f'rinstance, still has a pretty decent value (no idea
why).

Its a critical card for a seriously nasty combo.

P'raps you could fill me in on that; I must have missed that combination.

I personally play blue-black deck control, blue-white passive control, or
red-green burn :D

Oh my my, you're a meanie too!

...and goofy theme decks.. SOMEDAY my all-merfolk deck will win.
MWAHAHAHAA.

Oh, merfolk. I take it you're using merseine as well? What about those goofy homarids?
