But the fact stands that it was open source code running on Macintosh that accomplished what could not otherwise be done.
You've leapt to an unwarranted conclusion... I had already downloaded one of at least three packages for Windows that would do it. I used to be a devoted Mac user. I probably could be again, but now I'm so used to Windows that I'm not inclined to switch.
And as for the video that I wanted... I found the best way of all to get it, at high quality. When we walked into the Canning's house this morning, the reporter, Mike, was there and told us he'll send copies of his reports to us. He's the only reporter that they've allowed in, apparently because he came to their door with tears in his eyes and sincere sorrow.
I'm once again apalled at the behavior of others in the business I used to be in. I wasn't there to see it, but there were reporters hounding the Cannings, even knocking on windows when they wouldn't come to the door. I ask myself how any reporter could do that to a grieving family, but I'm afraid I already know the answer.
We're now on a first-name basis with the Friendswood chief of police, who will escort us tomorrow morning from our hotel (us and other family) to the funeral home, in large part of keep the media away.
On the other hand, the Marines continue to be marvelously kind and supportive. God is so clearly present to us... and so were Dan and Teri Minette, at whose home we stayed last night. Just came from dinner with family, which they joined, being supportive without being intrusive. We're very grateful.
Nick
