A nice 12-4 last week doubled my previous week's total..... too bad I was
faithless in not picking the Bills. Cincinnati also fell just short on
the Upset Special, dropping it to 5-6, although I feel like I deserve a
pass on that one, as last week was the rare NFL set without a single major
upset - in fact, only two underdogs won 1.5 point dog-Buffalo and 3-point
dog Tennessee (and the Jets won a pick'em on the road.)
Indianapolis at Detroit - Peyton Manning continues his drive towards
becoming the best QB in NFL history, and Joey Harrington might find his way
to the bench by the time this game is over. Very quietly, the Colts
defense has started playing much better too. Pick: COLTS
Chicago at Dallas - Someone has to win this one. I'll go with the plucky
Craig Krenzel over what will likely be Drew Henson in his first NFL start.
Pick: BEARS
Tennessee at Houston - I have to believe that David Carr and company are
really due to win one, and with Chris Brown likely out again for the
Titans. Pick: TEXANS
San Diego at Kansas City - Talk about no respect, the Chargers are somehow
underdogs in this one despite only having won twice as many games as the
Chiefs. Pick: CHARGERS
Jacksonville at Minnesota - I could easily see the Jaguars' overall
offensive speed making them very game in this one, but Minnesota just plain
needs it more. Pick: VIKINGS
Philadelphia at NY Giants - Eli Manning can't quite compete with Donovan
McNabb. Pick: EAGLES
Washington at Pittsburgh - Well, I've put the "Upset Special" in the tank
by betting against the Steelers the last few weeks.... and they remain
completely overdue. But while Gregg Williams' defense should give
Roethlisberger some problems, you still have to score some points on
offense too. Pick: STEELERS
Cleveland at Cincinnati - Al Lerner might fire Butch Davis at halftime in
this one. Pick: BENGALS
Tampa Bay at Carolina - Very quietly, the Bucs have turned their season
around, in an NFC where 8-8 could make the playoffs. Pick: BUCS
New Orleans at Atlanta - I fully expect Vick to have his NFL-record 6th
100-yard rushing game in this one. Pick: FALCONS
Baltimore at New England - Kyle Boller has been playing better lately, but
he hasn't faced the evil genius yet. Still, the Patriots are coming off of
a short week, and the Ravens defense and special teams should keep them in
this. Its a bit of a longshot with Jamal Lewis not playing, but I'm going
to roll the dice on this one... Pick: RAVENS UPSET SPECIAL
NY Jets at Arizona - I can't believe that Shaun King is the answer in
Arizona - and is Larry Fitzgerald really going to be better than Ben
Roethlisberger would have been for the Cardinals? Pick: JETS
Miami at San Francisco - The 49ers are close competitors with the Dolphins
and Panthers in the "most devastated by injuries" department. In the case
of two games among bad teams, I actually tend to like the road team, as
they won't have to deal with dumb NFL fans "booing" the home team. Pick:
DOLPHINS
Buffalo at Seattle - The Bills are a complete Jekyll and Hyde on the road
and at home. And while the Seahawks have just been a "Jekyll" pretty much
all season, I'll go with the monster I don't know rather than the monster I
know. Pick: SEAHAWKS
Oakland at Denver - The Raiders just don't seem good enough to win this
one. Pick; BRONCOS
St. Louis at Green Bay - Speaking of bad road teams, the Rams have already
given the Dolphins their only win of the year, and looked absolutely
abysmal on defense, on special teams, and on the offensive line last week.
Their offense won't be enough against one of the hottest teams in
football. Pick: PACKERS
