This is awful -- what constitutes "publishing?" For example, what if somebody from a sanctioned country posts to Brin-L? Am I now subject to a $1 million fine and a decade in prison because I host the list on my server? This is very disturbing, since on-line community hosts have been treated legally as something between a common carrier and a publisher. The fact that we do any moderation at all means that we're probably subject to the laws that govern publishers.
I know for a fact, from my work, that there are Cuban open source software developers who post to mailing lists that are published in the United States.
Outrageous. Un-American!
