After reading Budz second novel Crache, I sit almost convinced that
Budz is a pen name for Brin. It's the plays on words and the puns that
have me thinking in that direction, but then there is also a
similarity in writing styles. It is not likely to be true, but both of
Budz books read like a cross between Brin and Gibson.

Clade and Crache are both set in a post-ecocaust semi-dystopia. Much
of the familiar life on Earth has become extinct and the human race
strives to fill in the gaps in the ecologies (yeah, every clade
supports a somewhat distinct ecology) in order to make the world
continue to be livable or even viable.

These are "BioPunk books. Much of the technology evidenced in the
books is biological in nature, even energy production and
manufacturing. Much in evidence too are bio-hackers who subvert the
well matured technology for black market means and ends. Even the
asteroids are being exploited with biological tech.

I wouldn't want to spoil the books for anyone, but I will say that
they are good and will leave you wondering if the world might not end
up bearing some resemblance to these novels.

I shudder at the thought.
