High Five, Everyone :)

I had problems copying music CDs because I didn't know what do. I asked
for help/advice and it came. Since computer problems are common, I hope sharing
mine, and it's solution, will help someone avoid a similar difficulty.

    Hi,

I am perplexed and my work is stopped by a simple difficulty.
The music CD only shows 44byte files, not the larger music files. When I
check the music CD Properties or examine the CD with SonicForge or NTI CD
maker 2000 the expected music files to not show. Under Properties, the tracks
show
as MS-DOS name is Track01.CDA.
I need to see and move files (the music) from the CD onto my computer in
a common format which I can then easily copy onto other CDs.
(I have the music makers permission to copy and use some of the music in
conjunction with my little project.)

Thank you for your help overcoming this problem.

The Informative Reply:
Music files in CD format are not viewable to your computer, which can only
see a shortcut to them. The CD must be "ripped" into another file format in
order to be copies and used by your computer. In it's natural format, these
files
are very large. There are many free programs that will rip files into
different formats such as MP3 (very popular, medium size), WMA (Windows Media
files,
smaller, but often with built in copying restrictions), Ogg (a new small file
system which works on Windows and Linux machines, but has not yet gained
popularity) and Flac (see Oog, but even more obscure.

It's possible (likely) Sound Forge has this capacity built in.
Or see:

for an MP3 ripper
http://www.tucows.com/preview/305350.html
for Oog
or even Music Jukebox will do it.

Search Tucows.com for freeware rippers, but first check the settings in Sound
Forge. The version I used let you do it by using the drop down arrow on the
Save As menu box and simply choosing another file format.

Good luck, contact me if you run into difficulties.
