Speaking of vision........for the last few months I have been convinced that my glasses were out of date and I needed to get my vision rechecked for a new prescription. Things were just as blurry with them on as with them off. It has not been a priority because I rarely wear my glasses even though I should when reading and driving. But yesterday I wore my glasses for the first time in a couple of months and my vision was perfect with them for the first time in many months.
Anyone have any insight on that?
If blurry vision comes on suddenly, it could be a sign of a stroke or something like that (nice that I am just now telling you that after three weeks, isn't it?), or perhaps retinal detachment (though that would not likely improve on its own) . . .
Any decrease in the amount of oxygen getting to the eyes and the brain via the bloodstream can affect vision. Some astronomers have this problem when they go up to an observatory on a high mountain for an observing run: the thin air up there means less oxygen in the bloodstream. (And the rule at Mauna Kea is that you arrive on the mountain top 24 hours before your observing run starts to at least partially acclimatize yourself to the thinner air so you won't do something like grey out and drive/walk off the edge, or worse yet, break some expensive equipment :P.) Presuming that you did not have a stroke, and that you did not relocate to a significantly higher altitude a few months ago, another possibility which comes to mind is that caffeine is a bronchodilator, so if you rather abruptly decreased your intake of coffee/tea/etc. at the time, you might notice vision problems (lack of acuity and/or sensitivity) as a result. Those should have corrected themselves after a few days, though, if that was the cause. If you were taking any other medication and stopped back then, or started taking some new medication, it might have had a similar effect, depending on what the medication was.
I suppose you did not consult a doctor at the time . . . ?
