The ongoing project for brin-l listees to rate books based on the unproved notion that we might have similar tastes :)

There are 803 books in the database and 1915 book ratings so far. The site has been updated so as to not require cookies to work. This should make things a bit easier for some people.

So this is the SF top ten...

Just to make things even more exciting I have calculated this table using a simple trimmed mean where a single 'best' and a single 'worst' rating are excluded and the remainder averaged. Since I'm throwing away two scores for each book each book has to be rated a minimum of five times rather than three to be included.

Hyperion Dan Simmons 1 The Citadel of the Autarch Gene Wolfe 2 The Claw of the Conciliator Gene Wolfe 2 The Shadow of the Torturer Gene Wolfe 2 The Sword of the Lictor Gene Wolfe 2 The Left Hand of Darkness Ursula K Le Guin 3 Gateway Frederik Pohl 4 Foundation and Empire Isaac Asimov 5 Schismatrix Bruce Sterling 5 Tiger! Tiger! Alfred Bester 5 A Deepness in the Sky Vernor Vinge 6 Slaughterhouse-Five Kurt Vonnegut 7 Use of Weapons Iain M Banks 7 The Fall of Hyperion Dan Simmons 8 1984 George Orwell 9 Dune Frank Herbert 9 Neutron Star Larry Niven 9 Permutation City Greg Egan 9 Second Foundation Isaac Asimov 9 Startide Rising David Brin 9 The Man in the High Castle Philip K Dick 9 The Robots of Dawn Isaac Asimov 9 Way Station Clifford D Simak 9 The Reality Dysfunction Peter F Hamilton 10
