Sure, this is readily apparent to *us*, but back then any pregnancy in concert with an intact hymen would be considered miraculous. I think the point that is being made is that there are several ways for a woman to become fertilized (not refering to that anal fissure here<G>) that would have the appearance of being miraculous without actually being a supernatural event.
