At about 12. Unfortunately for the church's membership rolls, my mental development managed to proceed past that age, so the just-so stories that satisfied my mind at that time eventually stopped working on me.
Well, that plus the church's attitude toward nonheterosexuals, which is intolerable, and its behavior toward divorced mothers, which is detestable, was sufficient to show me what a passle of intellectually and philosophically inbred louts I'd fallen foul of.
