I am reminded of the fact that about 10% of US place names mean the same thing in some local native American dialect.

Minnesota, Mississippi, Wyoming, Delaware... they all
mean the same thing, in various tribal tongues.

I'm reluctant to believe this story. It is too much like the oft-cited "Eskimos have NN words for snow" legend, and a quick search of Google finds plenty of relatively meaningful, er, meanings for the places named above.

Then again, is it well established there's a whole country named
"village" just to the North of the United States.
