She's a mother looking for someone to blame -- Israel is just one of the
perpetrators, far from the only one.  I don't support that.  I believe that
blame is the path to violence, not peace.  As I said, I was uncomfortable with
her blaming the war in part on the U.S. alliance with Israel, not because I
heard it as anti-Semitic, but because it seeks blame, not peace.

And I really must say at this point that I can certainly empathize, though not
fully understand by any means, with the sensitivity of any Jewish person to
Israel being blamed for *anything*, since Jews have been blamed for all sorts
of things through the centuries, at a cost far greater than the number of
troops we've lost in Iraq or any other war.

I hope that nothing I've written sounds as though I endorse blaming Israel or
anybody else.  What matters to me is who is responsible and how we grieve and
heal together.
