PS: with all the reproductive isolation we've foisted upon dogs (not

We have. Dogs _are_ an artificial creation of Humanity

Sorry, (pending opinions of a better biologist than me) I
disagree. We can breed dogs back to wild wolves with no difficulty
at all.
That is one of the big problems with the ModernSynthesis. All the
proof is inferred. If indeed mutations are random and reproductive
isolation is paramount to speciation, we have met that goal. Dogs
should have split from wolves and become a separate species; not
able to share their DNA with the parent line.
That is, IF neodarwinism is correct.
Dog, wolves, coyotes and foxes can all interbreed. They don't do so
naturally however and therefore count as separate species. Tigers and
Lions can interbreed too. Accumulating enough genetic differences
that producing a viable foetus is impossible is different from
accumulating enough genetic differences that interbreeding doesn't
naturally occur (due to behavioural differences).
