I still remember celebrating 12:34 5/6/78, which for me occurred on June
5th, but applied equally to the USA on May 6th.
How do you _say_ the date? I think most of the time we'll say "it's April
fifth" when responding to the question "what's today's date?" though "the
fifth of April is probably a not too distant second. "Fifth, April" would
be a rare response. In my experience, anyway.
