I've fortunately never really come across people like that - most of
the times I play online it's against people I know, or in games with
a decent lobby that'll sort out the abilities (easy to sort mine out
- with the exception of flying a Hurricane in CFS, I'm pretty
useless...).. Or in the case of Freelancer, a couple of the servers
I'd played on had reasonable sandbox areas - no fighting at all in
the first system, only people below a certain level can initiate
combat. Works pretty well.
There are times I feel that way in certain online communities: open
your mouth and it's very quickly shut by the local expert. Thankfully,
we only have a pair of those here.
Depends on the subject. Most people here have at least one area they
know a lot about, and at least a couple they're passionate about. So
if anyone else says something stupid, ignorant, naive or just wrong
in one of those areas, they're bound to be jumped on. It's the nature
of the community. Fortunately over the years we've MOSTLY managed to
keep it civil (and weirdly it's almost always been politics not
religion that has caused the really bitter rows...). What I love is
that it's perfectly possible to be having a blazing row in one thread
about something, and an amusing discussion in another *at the same
time*. It's not personal. We're all highly intelligent highly
opinionated people. So there are bound to be some big disagreements.
Let's see if we can smoke one out, shall we: God is real.
;-) Define "real"?
