I am 60 years old (how did that happen). I have two children 22 and
16. My dad died last Friday of Alzheimer's Disease. He had a long
decline but was well taken care of. Both I and my sister were at the
nursing home when he died. Very peaceful and painless. My dad was a
good man. He owned a restaurant and was a caterer. By the end of his
life there was nothing really left of him but an amazingly and
ironically healthy physical body. But his core was also there. The
day he died people who worked at the nursing home came by and kissed
him. They told us how nice he was. So part of his core survived as
well.

That is very nice to hear, that he maintained his core of nice to the end.

My mother-in-law is worried she'll end up with Alzheimer's, and her mother-in-law had it and was a total bitch at the end. She's worried she'll be a bitch. I think her core of nice is solid enough that she won't. If she mentions this concern to me again, I'll let her know about your father.

(No death in the family this year, but someone in central Texas fandom passed away 2 days ago, and I'll miss her.)
