I find it amusing that many brazilians claim to be catholic but
limit their catholicism to not eating meat on Holy Fridays and
baptizing the kids.

Since religion is make-believe then anyone can make-believe they are a catholic if they want. If the old fellow who make-believes he is the Pope disagrees he can take his ball home and sulk :-)
