I was 9-5 last week.. Admittedly after taking an unusual mulligan. After writing my picks last week, Tennessee threw in the towel on the season and started rookie Vince Young at QB. There wasn't much way the rookie was going to beat the Cowboys, so I changed my pick in the register. My apologies for anyone rooting for the Upset Special, which is now 3-1, after the next biggest upset on my slate, the Lions failed to upend St. Louis. For the year, I am 38-22. Interestingly, after two weeks of many tough games, I didn't have a lot of trouble with this week's picks. as I don't see lots of room for upsets in this one. Let's see if the confidence shows itself in results. Miami at New England - The Dolphins' woeful offensive line and erratic QB Daunte Culpepper should be no match for New England. Pick: PATRIOTS
Tampa Bay at New Orleans - A friend of mine whose football opinion I respect greatly expects the Bucs to play well in this game, but when you are starting a rookie QB from the University of Toledo, I find that hard to believe. Pick: SAINTS Washington at NY Giants - Its amazing how much better the Redskins' offense looks with Clinton Portis back, and there's lots of grumblings of no confidence in New York by the players against their coach. Pick: REDSKINS Buffalo at Chicago - The Bills are big underdogs after the clinic Chicago put on on Sunday night against a Seahawks team missing Sean Alexander. The Bills are going to try to come out and play the game very slow, ugly, and conservative.. Just avoid mistakes and try and win it at the end. Erratic Bills QB has played much better the last two weeks at home, so I'm going to put the Upset Special out on a big limb.. Pick: BILLS UPSET SPECIAL St. Louis at Green Bay - It was kind of sad watching Brett Favre try to hold things together last night. and who would've thought you'd ever be picking a Dome team on the road at Lambeau Field? Pick: RAMS Cleveland at Carolina - Carolina may not be the Super Bowl team everyone thought they were, but they are a lot better than the Browns with Steve Smith back. Pick: PANTHERS Tennessee at Indianapolis - Vince Young should spend his time on the sidelines watching and learning from Peyton Manning. Pick: COLTS Detroit at Minnesota - I still think that the Lions are good enough to win a couple games this year, but getting the Vikings on the road after two straight losses is a tough spot. Pick: VIKINGS Kansas City at Arizona - In just one month, Coach Herman Edwards has turned Kansas City from an offense-first team into a defense-first team. Amazing. Welcome to the NFL Matt Leinart. Pick: CHIEFS Oakland at San Francisco - The 49ers are young, but they should bounce back from last week's 41-0 debacle in Kansas City against the hapless Raiders. Pick: 49ERS NY Jets at Jacksonville - The Jets are a game team - witness the scare they put in Indy last week - but are flawed in their inability to run the football, which will hurt them on the road against a Jaguars team that has dropped two straight. Pick: JETS Dallas at Philadelphia - Donovan McNabb badly wants to win this game, but with his two best weapons in Brian Westbrook and Donte Stallworth sitting out of this one, I just have to give the edge to the Cowboys - even with Drew Bledsoe playing on the road (never a safe bet.) Pick: COWBOYS Pittsburgh at San Diego - Ben Roethlisberger hasn't seemed right this year, and as hard as it is to imagine the Steelers going 1-3, Pick: CHARGERS Baltimore at Denver - The Ravens are very lucky to be undefeated, and you need more than luck on the road at Mile High.
